Japan’s Valentine Day cholocates

Japanese’s idea of Valentine’s Day is different from the rest of the world.
It is the tradition of Japanese women to give chocolates (high quality or handmade ones) to her man, on this day.

But single Japanese men, are not going home empty-handed and hurt. Because they will still get “obligatory chocolates” (giri-choco) from their female friends. Pretty funny culture, isn’t it?

Anyway, its all about chocolates on Valentine’s day here.

“Komatsuya Honten”, a bakery shop in Akita prefecture had previously made headlines for selling handmade beetle’s larvae like chocolates that look extremely real to be eaten. They made headlines again, this time round with their special Valentine edition chocolate packages.

The wrapping looks plain and ordinary. Nothing special.
Gift ideas for valentine's day

But when opened up,,,

.
.
.

Ugh! 5 beetle larvae pack chocolate! (5 for 1,100yen)
Shockingly real, aren’t they? w(o0o)w
”Japanese

Next comes “Kabuto Mushi (beetle) cake lovely pack”, Komatsuya Honten’s Valentine’s Day limited edition package. What’s so special about it?

?
?
?

A set white & red larvae (auspicious symbol) with Mr.beetle holding on to a heart.
Oh, my! Honestly, which guy could be thrilled & honored to get this (~0~)
Creative Japanese gifts

If “Kabuto-Mushi (beetle) cake lovely pack” is already too gross for your liking,
brace yourself for the upcoming “Hachi no ko mozomozo puchi caramel”, another Valentine limited edition package!

.
.
.

See!? All thanks to this disgusting “wasp larvae” like caramel, that I lost my appetite for the day (ToT) Seriously, who could eat this?
Japanese valentine days chocolates

Hey, but on a positive note, men whom are able to see these as jokes could be fun to hang out with! So girls, how about some testing session on your guys (*^-`)v

Seasonal food / Fried oyster (Kaki Furai)

Loves winter when my favorite food fried oyster (Kaki Furai) is once again showing up on the menu of restaurants.
Japanese bread crumbs (panko) coated, “Kaki furai” is deep fried and topped with tonkatsu sauce, served with tartar sauce for dippings. Try it and you will know why I can’t resist it.

Regrettably, I had ONLY eaten it twice last year.
Of course! That was nowhere enough (-_- x)

My “Kaki Furai” eating spree started from early Dec last year.
And … that’s how the throat inflammation came about (; -__-) …

No way, I am going to stop it.
Today, its Kaki Furai AGAIN for energy top up v(^-^)v
Back to work again after that.

Snowing day in Tokyo

Unexpected heavy snow, greeted Tokyo 3 days ago, paralyzing the city’s transport system. My blog took a few day’s break too (LOL)

The morning when it snowed, the room was freezing. Lying on the bed, I could hear the sound of the falling snow. Unlike the rain that goes pitter patter, snow is almost silent. But it has a rhythm that just sound so pleasant, so soothing to the ears.

The curtains, drawn aside to reveal falling flakes and streets engulfed in snow! Of course, my excitement hit the max! It rarely snow in Tokyo and this was the first this winter.

Deciding that I need a celebration, I took a train downtown to Tokyo dome.
And this proves to be an extremely bad decision!
Many times, I came close to stumbling due to the slippery ground from the frozen ice (>_<) Next, the train!
They stopped operating due to the heavy snow (v__v`)
Unbelievable! This could happen in Tokyo!?

I got myself home, finally after some big efforts. What is so interesting about snow? It sets me thinking…
But next year, I will still be looking forward to the snow again, I know.
That’s how human are, full of contradictions (LOL)

With the falling snow, Japanese houses look somehow westernized.

The pictures are the only merit I could find for travelling down to Tokyo dome on a snowing day. And not to forget, lunch buffet in the hotel (^-^)v
Lunch buffet

The next day after the snow. They streets look so dirty. Where is the pure white, fluffy image of snow?? Streets after the snow

Japanese fashion layering

Fashion coordinates from Ray magazine’s “layering techniques” corner.
Four casual styles to choose from if your are in the mood to dress up for weekends or dates.

1. Salopette denim paired with shirt and cardigan got the thumbs up for the cute boyish style.
2,3. Turn sweet and girly with a short plaid skirt paired with V-neck cardigan or fit and flare tube dress over a lace black top, the winter version of wearing a tube dress.
4. Get feminine & ladylike next with maxi dress worn over turtle neck top.

With the coats on, these coordinate create an altogether different style. Have to say that I love Ray’s brilliant choice of coats!
Is any of Ray’s layering techniques helpful for you?

Auspicious symbol, Kadomatsu on New Year

Stumbled upon a company with a toppled kadomatsu on my way back from lunch.

((((((°O° ))))) Oh my gosh! The poor kadomatsu must have gotten knocked down by the north wind that chose to blow with a vengeance on this day.

Kadomatsu is meant to be an auspicious symbol, and MUST be placed upright in pairs, on the entrance just before the New Year… A toppled kadomatsu sounds awfully inauspicious (v__v`)

Its not as if a fallen Kadomatsu is going to mark the downfall of the company, but if any of the staffs were to witness this scene, they couldn’t be feeling better.

So the HERO decided to give a helping hand in restoring the toppled kadomatsu. The HERO in this subject is our boss (^__-)
Just a little helping hand, and that could probably save the company from a crisis
;+*(@`U`@)*+;

This year is certainly going to be a great year for our company too, all thanks to the “HEOIC” act from our boss!
